This is based on the PAF  originally released in 1957.  The original idea was to use Alnico 2 magnets and 5000 winds of plain enamel wire on each coil of the pickup.  In practice PAF's were simply "wound until they were full" but I take a less haphazard approach and actually control the number of winds with a calibrated bridge and neck pickup.

If I were to use 1 word to describe this pickup it would be spongy. This pickup has all the grit, harmonic complexly, and sustain that was characteristic of the '57 PAF's.  It also has the soft treble, warm midrange, and spongy bass that the original PAF is so famous for.  Their thick, bright tone is particularly sought after for blues but is used in Jazz, metal, and everything in between.
