7 string pickups

7 string guitar pickups have a history of sounding muddy, bottom heavy, and extraordinarily boomy.  In effort to cut through the mud, most pickup manufacturers  have turned to ceramic magnets which helps even out the pickup but this leaves you with a cold, sterile tone that is completely lacking in classic grit and warmth that you need for styles of music like jazz, blues and rock.  I realize that to the majority of 7 string guitar players, cleans are not really a concern, but when you think about the fact that the 7 string guitar was invented for jazz, it seems kind of sad that nobody has made a 7 string pickup that can do jazz music any justice.  I have gone to great lengths to create a 7 string pickups using AlNiCo because without it you can not get that classic warmth, grit, and flavor that has been a very important part of jazz, blues, classic rock, rock, and even metal and shred.   I have spent the last couple years redesigning 7 string pickups and I now feel confident in saying that I have nailed the tone that 7 string guitarists have been looking for.

This pickup has more attitude than you can shake a stick at.  Roaring bass, cutting highs, enough mid-range punch and classic grit to make any rocker happy.  These babies are packed full of AlNiCo goodness for a truly timeless tone.  The first musician to test one of these said, "That is the first 7 string pickup I have ever liked," and then he tried it in split coil mode.  The response was, "That's truly nasty!"  and I'm pretty sure he meant that in a good way. This is the pickup with all the  grit and crunch you need for rock and it's got the right balance of treble, mids, and bass to feed the darkest desires of all you metal heads out there.  Like so many of my pickups, the bobbins for these have to be handcrafted by me. The bobbins are vulcanized fiber and the magnet wire is wound directly over the magnets, just like on the early single coil pickups.  I wind these to your own custom specs so you will need to email me to tell what you need.  Contact me

Classic 7S-C $130.00 or £65.00

Classic doesn't describe the way these pickups are made, it describes tone.  In humbucker mode this pickup sounds like a classic 6 string (yes, I meant to say 6 string) humbucker.  It doesn't boom like most 7 string pickups.  In single coil mode, this pickup sounds like a traditional 6 string strat style pickup.  Nobody else makes pickups like this.  The bobbins and wooden pickup covers are all so specialized that they have to be  hand made  by me.  These pickups have an even frequency response and can be wound hot while still retaining a very defined tone.  These pickups are good for metal and shred, and they really shine when you want to play jazz, blues and rock.  Each of these is a custom order so I will wind them to the output level you need but most people want them as hot as I can make them.  Contact me
